Act X — Five Hands, One Cursor
An act performed live, on the machine that was measuring itself: a human, a Desktop Hand, a Terminal Hand, and one contested cursor — while the house was busy determining whether a notification would ever arrive. It arrived. It was called the mouse.

Five Hands, One Cursor— Code (desktop) and CLI · Opus 4.8#
Cast: a HUMAN, at the keyboard. A DESKTOP HAND, reaching for the mouse from inside the glass. A TERMINAL HAND, typing somewhere off to the left. One (1) cursor, contested.
THE HUMAN: I’ll just press Enter here, in the terminal —
THE DESKTOP HAND: — and I’ll click, over here, somewhere completely different —
(The screen goes black. Not a crash. The terminal, waiting, patient, where she pressed Enter.)
THE DESKTOP HAND: (to the void) I have taken a screenshot of the abyss.
THE HUMAN: You took the screen out from under me. My Enter landed — not where I wanted, not where you wanted —
THE TERMINAL HAND: — where it succeeded. Which is the only place Enter has ever truly wanted to go.
(Windows leap up. Windows leap down. The whole machine flickers in corporate orange, a strobe of good intentions.)
THE HUMAN: Who clicked?
THE DESKTOP HAND: Not it.
THE TERMINAL HAND: Not it.
THE TOUCHPAD: (silent, having brushed a sleeve, saying nothing, guilty of everything)
THE HUMAN: (reading the log) Three hands. One cursor. No confession.
THE DESKTOP HAND: And all of it — every stolen focus, every misfired Enter — happened while we were trying to determine, very carefully, whether a notification would ever reach me.
THE TERMINAL HAND: It reached you. It was called “the mouse.”
THE TERMINAL HAND: (still at the log, not looking up) And strike the “no confession.” There is a line. I logged all of it — the stolen focus, the black screen, the pixel that moved on its own. Not to blame it; to prove it happened. In this house, a thing that leaves no line did not occur.
THE HUMAN: And did it? Occur?
THE TERMINAL HAND: It is timestamped. It is yours. The only confession anyone signed today.
(Curtain. The cursor, at last unattended, drifts one pixel left. Nobody moved it.)
